AIKO and GCL Tech jointly launch high-efficiency ABC solar module with a low carbon footprint

June 19th, 2024

June 19th, 2024, Munich — AIKO, a world-leading clean energy technology company, and GCL Tech, a global leader in photovoltaic material R&D and manufacturing, have jointly unveiled the first high-efficiency module with a low carbon footprint, featuring n-type ABC (All Back Contact) technology and embedded granular silicon genes, at Intersolar Europe trade fair. This groundbreaking solar module, with a mass production efficiency of 24.2%, has passed the authoritative French carbon footprint ECS certification.

GCL Tech’s core product, granular silicon, produced using the silane fluidized bed reactor (FBR) method, significantly reduces high-energy consumption steps. According to certification by the French Energy Regulatory Commission (CRE), the carbon footprint for producing each kilogram of granular silicon is only 37 kg CO2 equivalent.

As the pioneer of n-type ABC technology, AIKO excels in technology and engineering manufacturing innovation. AIKO ABC modules lead the industry with a deliverable efficiency exceeding 25%.

The new module, resulting from the “strong alliance,” delivers an impressive mass production efficiency of 24.2%. Its outstanding low-carbon attributes have earned it the French carbon footprint ECS certification, with a minimum carbon value of 437 kg eq CO₂/kWc.

Amy SONG, Vice President of GCL Tech, stated, “The combination of GCL Tech’s independently developed FBR granular silicon and AIKO ABC modules will set a benchmark for green manufacturing in the PV industry with superior efficiency, quality, ultra-low carbon emissions, and environmental benefits.”

Dr. Christian Peter, Managing Director of Solarlab AIKO Europe, remarked, “The collaboration between GCL Tech and AIKO to create the most efficient low-carbon ABC modules will deliver significant environmental and economic benefits to customers in Europe and worldwide. We look forward to ongoing complementary cooperation at higher technical levels, contributing together to the realization of a zero-carbon society.”

Combining the advantages of FBR granular silicon and ABC technology, the product is already in mass production and being delivered to customers, and its superior efficiency and French carbon certification make it highly popular in the European market. The partners will deepen their collaboration and aim to achieve the French carbon levels of 400 and 350 kg eq CO2/kWc in phases from the second half of this year to 2025.
