Fueling Victory with Innovation: AIKO and Brunel Solar Team Reunite for World Solar Challenge 2025

June 17th, 2025

AIKO, a global leader in solar innovation and the inventor of N-Type ABC (All Back Contact) technology, proudly announces the renewal of its partnership with the Brunel Solar Team for the upcoming 2025 Bridgestone World Solar Challenge (BWSC) in Australia.

This marks the second consecutive year of collaboration between the two partners. In 2024, AIKO supported the team during the Sasol Solar Challenge in South Africa, where extreme weather and road conditions put solar technology to the test. Encouraged by the successful results, the two teams reunite in 2025 with greater ambition and stronger synergy.

Since its founding in 2001, the Brunel Solar Team has established itself as a dominant force in solar racing — winning 7 World Solar Challenge championships and 4 Sasol Solar Challenge titles — and earning a reputation as one of the most decorated teams in the world. Their continued partnership with AIKO reflects a shared commitment to pushing boundaries through innovation, sustainability, and engineering excellence.

“We are thrilled to continue our partnership with AIKO in 2025. Their cutting-edge solar technology has consistently supported our performance goals. With their N-Type ABC cells now achieving 27.2% average mass-production efficiency, we’re using the most powerful commercial solar solution available — and that gives us confidence heading into this race,” said Martijn Boonen, Electrical Engineer, Brunel Solar Team.

“The Brunel Solar Team represents the spirit of solar innovation — perseverance, creativity, and precision,” said Jessica Zhang, Chief Marketing Officer of AIKO. “We’ve built a partnership grounded in mutual respect and shared vision. We’re proud to support their journey toward a zero-carbon future, with our local team in Australia also engaged throughout the event.”

As the pioneer and integrator of all Back Contact (BC) technologies, AIKO’s N-Type ABC cells deliver higher efficiency, higher power output, lower temperature coefficient, superior low-light response, high temperature restriction and anti-micro-crack performance — key advantages for solar vehicles operating under dynamic and challenging conditions. AIKO pioneered the industry-defining two-step process that elevates ABC cell efficiency toward its theoretical maximum, with proven reliability on the road.

In a race where every square centimeter counts, these advantages enable the Brunel Solar Team to extract maximum energy from limited space — ensuring endurance, consistency, and competitive edge across the 3,000-kilometer race from Darwin to Adelaide.

The 2025 Bridgestone World Solar Challenge is more than a race — it’s a platform where technology, youth, and purpose converge. By continuing this partnership, AIKO and Brunel Solar Team reaffirm their shared mission: to accelerate solar innovation, inspire the next generation of engineers, and contribute to a cleaner, carbon-free future.
