AIKO Continues Partnership with Nordlys NTNU, Norway’s First Solar Car Team
July 2rd, 2026
AIKO, the company that pioneered BC (Back Contact) technology, today announced the continuation of its collaboration with Nordlys NTNU, Norway’s first solar car team. The extended partnership (2026–2027) will see AIKO continue to supply its high-efficiency ABC cells for the team’s vehicle development.
Nordlys first chose AIKO’s ABC cells in 2025, when the team was just starting out. One year later, they have chosen to continue the collaboration.
Founded at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in Trondheim, Nordlys is Norway’s first solar car team. AIKO’s ABC cells offer industry-leading efficiency and superior temperature coefficient for stable performance across varying conditions. The full back-contact design eliminates front-side metallization to maximize light absorption, while silver-free metallization reduces microcrack risk during assembly and operation.
“The continued collaboration with AIKO gives us confidence,” said Rasmus Nummelin, Project and Board Leader of Nordlys NTNU. “We are a young team, but AIKO trusted us when we started, and they are still with us. Their ABC cells give us the technical foundation we need. The efficiency is industry-leading, and the back-contact design allows us to maximize active solar area on the vehicle. Knowing we have reliable technology on board lets us focus on everything else we need to build and learn. We need components that work as specified, every time, and AIKO’s ABC cells have met our technical expectations throughout the development process.”
The continuation of this partnership reflects a broader philosophy at AIKO. The company does not only partner with winning teams. It also chooses to believe in teams that are building themselves from the ground up, with everything still to prove.
“We are proud to continue our collaboration with Nordlys,” said Jessica Zhang, Chief Marketing Officer of AIKO. “We believe in supporting the next generation of engineers, not only when they win, but especially when they are still finding their way. Nordlys represents exactly that: young engineers with big ambitions, building something from nothing. We are here to stay with them.”
By supporting young engineers who will shape the future of energy, AIKO transforms advanced solar technology into something tangible, trustworthy, and meaningful for the generations who will carry the zero-carbon transition forward.
