Colored solar modules: Inspiring options for architectural solar integration

March 3rd, 2025

Solar adoption has faced significant challenges due to aesthetic conflicts and regulatory restrictions, particularly in areas with heritage-protected buildings and traditional terracotta roofs. Standard black solar modules sometimes clash with the architectural identity of these regions, limiting renewable energy integration.

To address this issue, Soluxa, a pioneer in patented Vibrant coating technology, has introduced high-efficiency colored solar modules. By independently sourcing AIKO’s standard modules and leveraging their high efficiency, Soluxa creates customized colored solutions that maintain architectural harmony while unlocking new solar potential for residential, heritage, and urban applications.

Heritage Compliance and Aesthetic Integration

Municipal regulations across Europe are gradually allowing terracotta-colored solar modules in protected areas, enabling historical buildings to embrace clean energy without compromising aesthetics.

Lourens van Dijk, Founder of Soluxa, emphasized the significance of this innovation: “With Soluxa’s patented Vibrant technology, we can achieve a wide range of rich colors with minimal energy loss. Combined with the high efficiency of AIKO’s standard modules, we provide a solar solution that seamlessly integrates into architecture without sacrificing performance.”

Optimizing Solar Performance in Residential and Urban Spaces

Soluxa’s colored modules, using AIKO’s standard N-Type ABC modules as the base, deliver up to 390 Wp per module, ensuring high energy output and reliability, and Soluxa will handle all aftersales and warrantee fulfillment on its modules.

For residential applications, a recent 7.5 kWp installation on a heritage protected building in the Netherlands demonstrated the advantages of Soluxa’s terracotta-colored modules. The system allowed the homeowner to meet aesthetic regulations while generating sufficient clean energy for daily consumption.

For urban developments, solar facades present a scalable and highly efficient alternative to traditional rooftop installations. A colored solar module installed on a south-facing facade in the Netherlands can generate approximately 300 kWh per year, translating to a value of €90 per module annually. Additionally, these modules serve a dual function as both a solar power source and cladding material, reducing construction costs and maximizing space efficiency.

Paving the Way for Aesthetic and Efficient Solar Solutions

As the pioneer of mass production in BC technology, AIKO continues to push the limits of photovoltaic efficiency, driving the global transition to a zero-carbon society. By providing standard high-efficiency modules used in Soluxa’s colored solutions, AIKO is expanding solar accessibility while maintaining architectural integrity.

Soluxa’s colored modules, based on AIKO’s standard modules, offer a new solution for heritage sites, residential properties, and urban developments, making clean energy adoption both visually harmonious and technically efficient.
