How Intermarché Beja Maximized Solar Output in Portugal’s Sunniest Region

In one of Portugal’s hottest regions, the Intermarché supermarket in Beja has successfully transformed its rooftop into a high performance solar plant. Facing intense solar irradiation and high daily electricity demands, the facility required a solution that could maximize energy production while withstanding extreme ambient temperatures. By deploying AIKO’s advanced N type ABC technology, the supermarket has significantly reduced its energy costs while setting a new standard for sustainable retail in sun drenched environments.

The move to AIKO ABC technology delivered measurable performance gains and financial security over standard TOPCon alternatives: Superior Capacity: The project achieved 12.25 kWp more capacity within the same rooftop area compared to TOPCon modules. Space Optimization: For the same power output, the AIKO system required 50.30 m² less space. Energy Yield Gains: First year generation reached 515.8 MWh, an increase of 43.1 MWh over TOPCon. Lifetime Value: Over a 30 year period, the system is expected to generate 14,309 MWh, providing €169,395 in additional lifetime savings. Financial Performance: The investment is expected to pay back in just 2.77 years with a Levelized Cost of Electricity (LCOE) of €0.01802/kWh, far below the grid cost of €0.16/kWh.
Client Customer’s voice
AIKO’s modules offer exceptional output, and because they produce their own photovoltaic cells, we have full confidence in the quality. The German backed insurance provides an extra layer of security, and the sleek design integrates perfectly with the supermarket’s architecture. I am producing more energy than I expected. Without a doubt, a premium solution worth the investment.
